I still didn't trust it and it was time for a replacement anyway.Roberta Xhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09956807794520627885noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5837660608809488753.post-81542959132449264252017-04-07T06:21:11.865-04:002017-04-07T06:21:11.865-04:00Hi Roberta,

My Win 10 laptop updated and is now unable to connect to wireless or wired networks. Fortunately, I have a Win 7 desktop that Microslob refused to update. Why am I reminded of the axiom that if something is working, keep improving it until it doesn't.

JerryJerryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09512155016462081947noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5837660608809488753.post-53358227044815443222017-04-05T06:52:56.199-04:002017-04-05T06:52:56.199-04:00I have both Spybot - S&D and MalwareBytes, but...I have both Spybot - S&D and MalwareBytes, but neither would launch. I got another one from the IS guys at work, SUPERAntiSpyware, which they swear by despite the goofy name, and it ran, found the problem, and appears (from they way the computer runs) to have taken care of it.Roberta Xhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09956807794520627885noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5837660608809488753.post-55722391318794832782017-04-04T15:32:54.339-04:002017-04-04T15:32:54.339-04:00Hi Roberta,

Typically, it gets rid of enough infection to let the installed anti-virus recover and do it's job.

MalwareBytes is another good program.

Hopefully you don't have anything too nasty but you have my e-mail address. Feel free to ask questions.

JerryJerryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09512155016462081947noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5837660608809488753.post-17330360307137734392017-04-04T10:54:41.065-04:002017-04-04T10:54:41.065-04:00Fixed for one boot, then it's back? Look at the boot drive allocations; there may be one more than you think you should have, that occupies 1-2 meg.rickn8orhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16911803300343351338noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5837660608809488753.post-22157056064280638292017-04-04T10:49:29.760-04:002017-04-04T10:49:29.760-04:00If you have any data you value on it, get it onto ...If you have any data you value on it, get it onto a flash drive or the like asap, but consider it potentially infected.

There is some wisdom in periodically rebuilding the OS from scratch.

I have to admit the data I regretted losing the most has been my browser bookmarks...
