I raked leaves afterwards, too. This is about as physically active as I have been in months, so it's a big deal.
Gutter screens are on my "to-do" list this year -- the roof is dangerously steep and I'm not getting any younger.
Hoping to pick up some bags of good dirt and wildflower seeds for the front flower bed this week.
I got tired of cleaning my gutters last year and finally had a local guy install gutter screens. Cost was very reasonable, and they seem to work well. Like a lot of other stuff, "Why did I wait so long?"
ReplyDeleteGlad you are up and around. Not sure about gutter screens. They have issues as well near as I can tell. We have some around here I am watching to see if they work.
ReplyDeletePaul, both of my neighbors have gutter screens, and have for years. They seem to be working so far.
ReplyDeleteI had a small pole barn built in 2014 for use as a garage, and had a local guy who does nothing but gutters install them. Last Fall, I had him back to install gutter screens, then had him return again to do my house. Although those gutters were easy to clean, with a low, shallow-pitch roof and a TV tower to climb, it's even better to not have to do it at all.
ReplyDeleteThe key for me was the local gutter guy: he has experience with different brands and the one he installed was whet he had the most confidence in
Generally, it appears that the type of screen that can be used has to be designed specifically for your gutters. Comes down to mounts and size, and probably material. I would be leery of generic types, as fitting correctly is critical. Also, there are different styles of screen, depending on the type of leaves you have falling on your roof. This may be regional, so ask if it is appropriate for your specific trees.
ReplyDeleteWill has a good point: my garage gutters were getting clogged by pine needles from some tall evergreens just to the West. The house was troubled with large leaves, I think mostly Maple. Those weren't as much of a problem because cleaning once or maybe twice in the Fall was enough; the garage gutters were more problematic. However, the screens that my guy installed seem to block both very well, and do not block the water.
