For those tribes, to be allowed to reproduce, members first had to demonstrate willingness to go through pain to achieve later gratification... submit to authority without question... do both of those in the name of membership in society. Those who wouldn't or couldn't didn't breed or didn't stay. <BR/><BR/>It's at a level no more sophisticated than interesting speculation, but I can also speculate that perhaps the drudgery, silliness, and allegiance to a not-very-worthy authority is the modern unanesthetized circumcision...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
