Tuesday, Tuesday

...What a waste! Not totally -- met a new cat while visiting a local sharpshooter, a grey, gold and brown tabby that simply adopted him in a parking lot (he's catomagnetic). A very nice critter, she curled up in my lap and purred and purred. Looks like a tiny tiger with eyeliner.

Other than that, work, work: went 'round and round with The Phone Company about some video issues, fretted more over the thingie I was fretting over last week, had a disturbing report from the North Campus and finished up some odds and ends...and came home to a decent book (Elizabeth Moon) and a fine dinner of Purina Girl Chow salad, with shredded mozarella and plenty of good olives.

So I'm not complaining. At least the snow mostly melted and tomorrow should be warmish (40!). Way colder by the weekend, wouldn't you know.

  1. I've gotta say I'm a dog person, but one of my residents is moving to Austin and I'm showing his loft nearly every day lately, and his little tart of a yellow tabby has won my heart, utterly. I can see how people come to have a houseful of cats. Of course, I'm talking all romantical and everything, not having begun to consider the mechanics of litterboxes and such.

  3. Dog family... but cats seem to gravitate towards me...as well as their fur.

Some people... seem to be able to talk to most all animals. Just happens I guess.

Roberta.... OLIVES...... HMMmmmmm.... By the hand full...
Last year I discovered 'The Olive Bar' at a fancy grocery store. Very, very lucky for me it's a long drive from home (hours). Between cheese, olives, and pickles I could blow right through what little ammo money I have :)

  4. Ooooo, 38, Tam? Swimmin' weather!

Cats: Phlegmmy, they're heart-stealers. Also very tiny self-propelled blankets. One Winter, I had 5 cats and a non-working furnace (and an electric space heater). Bedtime routine went: shut the bderoom door, turn on the heater, gather up the cats, and we'd huddle under the quilt. Worked pretty well. About litterboxes, what the shaman told Ed: "You get used to it. Or not."

'Teach, olives are the food of the gods, as are many cheeses and all manner of pickled foods. The organo-mart in my neighborhood staocks a nice array; I usually do a 50/50 mix of pitted Kalamata and mixed olives w/red chilies. It's ambrosial!

  5. We seem to attract anything on 4 legs, cats kittens, dogs, I have sworn that there is a neon sign on the roof saying suckers live here, free food & shelter.

Not looking forward to the weekend holding a Ohio CCW class, & it requires two hours of range time, that will be fun, at 15 degrees.

  6. Sounds like you had an accommodating colleciton of fur hot-water bottles! We'll find out sometime in the future, I suppose. I think I'm destined to get a kitty. Maybe I can find an orange tabby Scottish Fold - I love those little flopped-over ears!

  7. I have trained my cat to curl up around my toes. However, she will not dance. Very much. I was trying to get her to dance with me to "Sledgehammer" as I carried the breakfast dishes back to the kitchen just now. No dice! Well, she dances a little bit. But she hasn't learned to "spot" when she spins, so she gets dizzy and falls down. I keep telling her, "Stick out your tail! You'll slow down!" But over she goes! At least she tries.

  8. I spent a winter in a small three room, u-shaped cottage. Of course the heater was in the kitchen area. My cat would wait until I got into bed, then dig through the pile of blankets until she found the layer I was in. She would then crawl inside with me. Only cat I ever saw that would do this. In the morning, I would wake all scrunched up against the wall, and she would be sprawled out in the center where I started. I figured she probably was goosing me with her claws to get me to scoot over. For some reason, most people didn't like her. Said she was spooky. She looked like a Siamese, but was absolutely, totally pitch black. Not a white hair anywhere on her.
