The very fact that the alledged scientists are claiming it would cause a causality violation tends to cast aspersions on their claim. Sounds to me like a publicity stunt. Any 'hole' ripped (and isn't that a viscerally satisfying verb to use?) through the 'fabric of space/time', assuming such were possible, would be through space, not time.
