There ought to be some way for us People Of The Gun to show our appreciation of the good folks at
SCOTUSblog, who labored under hugely more traffic than their usual and kept the blog running nevertheless. Well done!
And they've provided my morning chuckle, too, with
a posting in re Heller from aptly-named
weenie Law Professor CarlT. Bogus, long-time source of PSH, who writes in part, "Surely, insurrectionism has had both James Madison and Edmund Burke spinning in their graves." Umm, gee, yeah,
except Madison didn't need to be dead to hear about it; his ol' pal Thomas Jefferson was wont at the time to muse that a revolt every ten or twenty years would be about right. Did'ja miss that sidebar, Prof?
I'm forever amazed at these guys who so trust The State they'd deny the right of the People to resist tyranny. Wonder if he has a big poster of the Tian An Men Square Tank Guy with big ol' red circle-and-slash negation symbol over it -- or is it okay to stand up to The Man as long as you're unarmed and get vanished for it?
Awww, Professor Bogus, who's the sad clown? Heheheh.
Akin Gump, the law firm that sponsors SCOTUSblog, actually represented DC in the Heller case. However, SCOTUSblog was pretty balanced in their coverage of the case.
ReplyDeleteIt's guys like Bogus who would be leaders of Vichy America.
ReplyDelete"Insurrectionist theory" has Madison spinning the way "singing theory" has Paul Robeson spinning.
ReplyDeleteAMEN, brother Staghounds!
ReplyDeleteDead on, Roberta. The 2nd Amend. isn't about duck hunting, collecting, target shooting, etc. It's about a free people having the arms to resist a tyrannical govt. if the need arises. Which it did, around 230 years ago.
ReplyDeletePN NJ: all the more reaon to bake them a cake, I'm thinking shaped like a gun with the NRA logo in icing and biiiig red-icing lipstick smoochie askew. Chocolaty deliciousness or hot coals on their heads? Depends on how y'look at it.
ReplyDeleteStaghounds: What..! You mean Madison himself took part in insurrection? OMG!
I think a significant part of what we are seeing from men of Professor Bogus's ilk is too much Lenin and Marx and not enough Payne and Jefferson: the revolutionaries our home-grown nomenklatura know and like best were careful to ensure that once they'd won their insurrection, such a thing could never happen again. So, thinketh the whinging Left, of course Madison et al would have done the same....
This is a very fundamental variety of not-getting-it, a bone-deep belief in top-down structure. Scary.
