They Say...

Blogging about your pets is said to be a bit gauche.  Oh, well.

Poor old Tommy Cat is having a hard time of it.  Like many another  old man, his digestive system troubles him, despite a high-fiber diet.  When he first started having problems, years ago, he ended up in the pet hospital a few times, emerging from each visit visibly older and more frail.

He's not quite as sick this morning but it's a measure of how bad the poor guy must feel that, when I brought his carrier up from the basement, he walked in and got as comfortable as he can as soon as he noticed it.

So it looks like I'll be calling the vet.  I hope she can help.

Update: Scheduled an appointment noonish today -- don't you wish M.D.s were as accessible?

  1. I know how Tommy feels...

Ratbane is still young enough that, so far, his diet doesn't bother him, and his aches and pains always seemed to be caused by teaching them uppity cats in the neighborhood who's boss--one vet commented that we can tell he wins, because his wounds are always in the front--but that last trip, the vet said she thought he might be developing hip displasia (sp?). We used one of the el-cheapo cardboard carriers for that trip, and he tore it up.
When we dropped him off at kitty jail for our trip to Hawaii, he figured out how to unzip the soft carrier; previously, he had head-butted the plastic carrier's door off it's hinges...

WV: satio. One who satiates? Or, the act of satiation?

  3. My wife and I are on our 3rd generation of cats. We inherited our first when the tom cat was 15 years old. He was with us for four years.

Following him, we got a bro/sis pair at a garage sale when the family's youngest developed cat allergy---so we were told. The pair was eight years old at the time and were terrified of strangers. That made my wife and I suspicious about their prior treatment. Those two lived another five years until kidney failure took them within a year.

Now we have a mom/daughter pair that we got at a shelter. Mom was two years old and daughter only a year. They are now eight and still with us and healthy.

With pets, you have to take the good along with the bad. Retain the memories and pass them along.

    It's a parental thing.

  4. I am also hoping that Tommy will get a positive check-up.

Did I tell you that I met a 21-year-old tabby last month? His name is Tiger.

  5. Fingers crossed and best wishes being sent from the nerd ranch. I'll give our critters an extra scritch for luck too.

If your M.D. had an all-cash business like the vet, he would be.
