Indy 1500 Gun and Knife Show, next weekend! (Look fer the tall wimmen, say "hi!")
Indy BlogMeet for January -- 18 or 25 Jan? Shermlock votes for the 18th. How about you? Let me know in Comments.
Also -- like everyone else, I'm building an Evil Black Rifle. Gotta lower for Christmas, picked up a lower receiver parts kit, looking for all the rest. (I'm going for .223 and "adequately functional." Refinement can wait).
I'll send you my Brownell's takedown pin retaining spring assembly tool.
ReplyDeleteCheck out Del-Ton for an upper, they have great deals!
ReplyDeleteThe 18th works for us, hopefully we'll be on time for once!
Roberta,
ReplyDeleteI am delighted you are enjoying your AR lower. Tam hinted that you were looking to build one before the Barry Ban is attempted; so, using my highly developed intelligence/lawyerin' skills, I put two and two together. All those years in the library are finally paying off!!!
Model 1 sales should be in Indy. Check them out as well and the guys from Kentucky, J&T.
If you want to keep it simple, an A1 stock and a pencil barrel upper with no forward assist will keep the platform simple and light and be tre Thunder Ranch. Don't forget mags, which will be part of the Barry Ban. 20 and 30 rounders but with Magpul followers.
Just my two pence (for the Neo-Victorian in you), now I must go run like the clappers to my next appointment,
Shoot straight,
Shootin' Buddy
I just mailed you the tool, plus a "D-Ring" extractor bumper and an "Accu-Wedge" to prevent the upper and lower from rattling, and a key-fob that is actually a swivel-pin punch-out tool.
ReplyDeleteMailed 'em from the post office at work (snork-snork-snork!)
When getting your upper, don't make the mistake I did. Get a chromed barrel and chamber plus a chromed bolt. It will make a big difference in stoppages.
ReplyDeleteMine has a varmit upper with SS barrel and bolt. It's very accurate to 200+ yards. But---I have to clean it after a few mags because the chamber is tight. I bought a box of Wolf ammo and had a case jam after 10 rounds. I think it was stuck because of the lacquer Wolf used. I had to use a dowel to hammer out the case.
Know your purpose before you buy the parts.
How tall are these wimmen I should be lookin fer?
ReplyDeleteI'll be contrary... the 25th is *better* for me, as I'm scheduled to return from SC (800-mile drive) on the 17th. BUT, assuming no hitches I schould be able to make either date. So...?

ReplyDeleteWhere Dr.Who keeps his Amex.
M -- Tam's 5' 12" and I am only a bit shorter. This used to be exceptional, but kids these days -- they're all tall.
ReplyDeleteThe Shot Show runs from the 15th to the 18th. I'm driving down on the 12th and I will be back the 19th (I hope) so the 18th is out for the farmer.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I will blog each evening over what I find and might even provide images if the technology don't overwhelm me.
All The Best,
Frank W. James
I may be out of town for both weekends. One to visit the folks, the next to visit my daughter. (since I missed them at Christmas.
ReplyDeleteI'm 5 foot 8. I'm the short person in the crowd.
ReplyDeleteThe Ascension is on the 20th, us orthodox Browningites celebrate His birth on the 23rd, and my B-day is on the 24th, so I vote for the 25th.
ReplyDeleteBut I'm all kinds of flexible...
I always thought Tam was six feet.
ReplyDeleteThere's another shattered illusion.
Don't worry 'bout Master! He's 4'10", And I accidently used his gmail acct. when commenting. I'm 6'4" but neither of us are coming to Indianapolis for anything less than the Blog Meet, Prolly March, By Train.....
ReplyDeleteI get too much police Attn. when riding my bike.
Fat Boy's kinda hard to miss, Me too!
Both? Been done before. Otherwise, I bow to the majority choice. Whatever it may be.
