Is Nothing Safe?
Nestle recalls chocolate-chip cookie dough. E. Coli calling! Sure am glad I make mine from scratch -- and I have never eaten the raw dough. Well, hardly ever.
I've always been surprised that there were never recalls on that stuff for salmonella, given that it's got raw eggs in it. And yeah, I know, it's pastuerized egg product, but that's still just one more step in the manufacturing chain where things can go awry.
Umm... Well, see, er, "Hardly ever" is a kind of Gilbert & Sullivan way of saying, "really quite often." --No, not "Orphan," "often!" But that's a whole other thing, it is.
On the other hand, I've dipped into raw and rare and "questionable" foods all my life and I haven't been struck more than a glancing blow (as in a morning and afternoon of upset tummy) from food in fifteen years. I don't think that's a coincidence.

ReplyDeleteWhen my daughter was small, there was always a batch of cookie dough in the 'frig. I don't think any of it ever was baked.
ReplyDeleteNever made it that far. :-)
I always eat raw cookie dough. We all have to die some time.

ReplyDeleteAnother argument for avoiding packaged foods.

Okay, see, you referenced the orphan/often argument and now you're on my "friends for life, on principle" list. Enjoy.
