Back. Spasm.

...Bent over to fix Littlest Cat's litter this morning, prior to setting the trash out and something in my back went clench! and all those nifty muscles across the center of my back and into the small of it tightened up. It felt like getting hit, hard, with a padded baseball bat. Intensity faded fast (or I would be abed, groaning) but it's lingering.

The cold, wet weather has returned, that's for sure, and it's not helping.

  1. Poor baby! Hope you feel better soon.

Did you remember to do your stretching exercises this morning? I don't want to be a nag, but...

  2. Fun, ain't it? I've found that after thirty-odd years you tend to get used to it.

  4. Ow. BTDT.

Got your painting done yet? (HA!)

Don't have my new roof in place either.

  5. Valerian root is a fantastic muscle relaxant. It worked for B's brother when his back went into a three day spasm--the doctor didn't have anything that touched it and the chiropractor couldn't fix it either. You can get it in capsule form at Whole Foods or any health food store.

Just make sure that you don't have any weed-type allergies but take a couple and go to bed.

  6. Been there, done that.
Muscle relaxant for sure and soak in a hot bath, and tell Tam to keep out, especially if she's playing with her toys.

  7. I like Sombra for back troubles.

I use it whenever my back or the muscles in my chest decide to go wonky. Seems to work better than anything else I've tried. Started using it at the chiropractor, who also uses it as a conductive fluid for electrostim therapy. The little roll on bottles are nice to carry around too. Like that on my knees.

  8. A chap on survivalblog a couple of weeks ago recommended having two tennis balls stashed for muscular back problems.

His advice was to put one tennis ball on the muscles BESIDE each side of the spine, near the top, and lay on them for ten minutes. Then move them downwards, and lay on them for another ten minutes, carrying this on all the way down the back.

I don't yet know if this works, but I have put a couple of tennis balls aside just in case.

    Best wishes.
