Where once there were simple four-way stops, he gave the plebes traffic circles.
Next, in rebuilding the town center, he cloned the Pantheon and it is a financial black hole.
He found Carmel, Indiana a city of brick and clapboard; he will leave it a city of debt.
Politicians: a group who cannot be trusted with money or power, let alone both at once. Either give 'em the purple-trimmed toga and Imperial laurels, or chuck 'em out; this in-between, Nero-in-a-sportscoat stuff is just grating.
He has sat there too long for any good he might have done.
ReplyDeleteWho will rid Carmel of this turbulent pseudo-Republican?
Ah, Brainard ... "the man who would be king." I hear tell the Arst & Design district is bleeding out, as well. My landlady knows the owner of a framing shop who's about to lose her house to keep her business going. That commercial real estate bubble is going to be funnnnnn ....
ReplyDeleteI do like all the bike paths, though. They'll come in handy when I can no longer afford gas for my car.
Whoops, that should be "Arts", not "Arst."
ReplyDeleteThe Arsed District?
ReplyDeleteYour Freudian slip is showing...
WV: "yoparth" Low-fat kumiss.
You have local politicians obsessed with roundabouts, too?
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry.
In some cases electing a particular politician to office is much like being visited by an outlaw gang; they come into town, steal everything, and then bust up stuff on their way out.
ReplyDelete"We hang the petty thieves and appoint the great ones to public office."
- Aesop
"It is terrible to contemplate how few politicians are hanged."
-G.K. Chesterton
I figure the roundabout will last about 10 years and then be replaced with traffic lights as they should be in the first place.
ReplyDeleteAs the driver of vehicles that aren't crappy trucks, I like the public skidpads... er, "roundabouts".
ReplyDeleteI guess you have to be all smart and English to know how to work them, 'cause they sure seem to stump and raise the ire H. suburbanus americanus.
Roundabout beats a four-way stop or a stoplight for certain values of traffic, but the geometry has to be right. Problem with some of Carmel's is, they're too small.
ReplyDeleteThey're awesome for hanging the tail end out.
ReplyDeleteI mean, hypothetically, of course.
