I spent a lot of time reading HH Munro when I was in my early teens. "The Pond" and "The Toys of peace" are always my favorites.
Saki gave us a window into the petty self absorption of the victorian/edwardian upper classes that has stood the test of time and is revisiting itself upon us even now.
"Tobermory", "The Lumber Room" and "The Open Window" are some of my favoritest short stories ever. The first is about a cat who learns to talk and threatens to spill everyone's dirty little secrets -- and being a cat, he's quite immune to pleas for mercy. Brilliant stuff.

I quite enjoyed that.

Lady Carlotta reminds me of Miss Amanda Peabody.

ReplyDeleteI enjoyed Saki's stories quite a bit when I was growing up, but I have to admit my favorite was "Sredni Vashtar".
ReplyDeleteWhy is Lady Carlotta reminding me of Katherine Hepburn?
ReplyDeleteVery good! I was completely unfamiliar with this author, but I thought it was a great story. Thank you.

ReplyDeleteI didn't know they had Saki in a can.
ReplyDeleteHe was waiting for hours, Tam -- it was that darned Prince Albert; he takes the newspaper in with him.
