I forget if it was Johnson or Evinrude that built his first outboard to get accross the lake fast enough to get icecream to his sweety. I like that story, young love creating a thriving buisness. Choaks me up a little.
In the 60s at the Westborough Massachusetts 1/4 mile high banked oval, there was a midget racer powered by a converted Evinrude motor, that would reliably police up the back of the pack. Don't look for it, I'm informed that the location is now covered by Condo City.

ReplyDeleteThat's teh funny, all right.
ReplyDeleteJohnson's "Sea Horse" was a fisherman's household name in the 1920's, and Ole Evinrude's "kicker" was a close second.
ReplyDeleteThe kicker was the one inspired by ice cream lust. The "Sea Horse" was inspired by walnut lust.
As I recall from campground conversation, both men had models on the market circa 1923. A far cry from today's MerCruiser.
