I'm not sure why Fox canceled Firefly and replaced it with Fast Lane(Google that crap fest) a Fast & the Furious rip-off. I haven't watched Fox tv since. That was a bad year for good tv. Farscape and Firefly. Just when I thought the wounds had healed.
Joshkie - it's because Fox ensured the show couldn't have a following. they played episodes out of sync and constantly changed the day and time it would air. in fact, the majority of the show's fan base happened AFTER the show got the axe.
When the tin-foil hat slips, I suspect that the persistent libertarian bent of the show had something to do with it, Fox's entertainment division having little to do with the editorial tendencies of the News division.
In all liklihood, it has more to do with the fact that broadcast television has never really gotten SF, especially good, or even mediocre, SF.
