What?

...Here so early? Oh, I overslept! Well, there's breakfast to be got, so make yourself comfortable and have a look at a splendid online collection of gas-station signs.

Remember DX? The fancy Red Crown globes on gas pumps? Sunoco's pumps that offered at least a half-dozen choices of octanes and additives? (Funny how it is now we have three or less choices and most everyone puts in the cheapest, low-octane stuff they can -- yeah, boom times, baby, never better). Indiana had plenty of small names -- McClure, Blue and White, Kocolene. All Most are gone now.

    McClure isn't gone. They've just gone into the Interstate truck stop business.

    I was born and raised in Bartlesville, OK, hometown of Phillips Petroleum Co. As a youth I hardly knew there were other brands of gasoline out there. On our vacation trips around the country we nearly always stopped at Phillips 66 stations in preference to all others, so some of those pics bring back a lot of memories.

    Now I pretty much stick to Quick Trip gasoline. It dominates the Tulsa market the way Phillips did in Bartlesville back in the day.

    We had a DX station a block down from us where I grew up. I believe DX was part of the Standard empire.
    I have to use premium in the pony.
