Uh, I was going to post something about the Fire yesterday, but decorum prevented it. Well, not so much that but my man card may be revoked if I did. I was soaking in the bathtub reading a book on the USS Wahoo and got emails from comments on the Blog while I was there. That is pretty cool!
So far I love the thing! Now to get it unlocked and get the VNC client for it so I can remote into computers at work.
Cool! I bought myself a Kindle Fire for Christmas (since no-one else was going to) based solely on the enthusiasm displayed for it by you and Tam.
I am so glad I did, because I love it! I haven't got it totally figured out yet, but it's great for movies, music, web surfing and of course, reading books. I also like that I can sinc my current reading material between it and my Blackberry too.
Since I already have a Kindle 3g and an I-Pad 2 I don't forsee a Kindle Fire purchase for myself. While it doesn't play movie's or display in color the 3G doesn't require access to a computer.
You don't need access to a computer, just a wi-fi area. I can use mine fine at home on my personal network, and also at work on our network there. It also works fine at public access wi-fi locations like Starbucks and the myriad other local restaurant/coffee shops with free wi-fi access for web surfing, email checking, streaming video or music, etc.
Once movies, music etc. are downloaded to the device they play seamlessly anytime, anywhere. If you run low on space, you can move those items you are done with to Amazon's "Cloud" storage to be accessed later in a wi-fi hot spot.
I agonized for a while over the 3G thing, but I'm happy with the Fire so far.

Got my Kindle Fire for Christmas. Are you using some specific blogware?
ReplyDeleteI am not, just their standard web-browser -- keyboard is fussy about showing up unless you use Blogger's "HTML" tab.
ReplyDeleteTyping is easier in landscape mode than portrait.

Does it come with (or can you get) a decent RSS aggregator?
