Combat!

The Romans knew it; William Randolph Hearst knew it and you know it, too; but few will ever come right out and say it:

There's nothing that grabs eyeballs better than a fight.

Gah.

  1. That's all right. We long-time readers still love you. :)

  2. My traffic stayed the same - at the level of "Creepy Stalker".

Because I don't like Bill Quick troll me regardless of Glenn's linky love.

  3. I am glad you got a bump in your visits. I always feel a disturbance in the force when two of my favorite sites get into a disagreement (flame war, whatever). I sincerely hope it ends amicably.

  4. Amicable? Sure - he called me "hysterical" repeatedly and his buddy mischaracterized my friendship with Tam in a manner intended to offend. (You stay classy, Kim.)

I believe the lad to be a bombastic, paternalistic nitwit. I would entertain evidence to the contrary but it would have to be convincing. And include an apology.

  5. Roberta, they really made a comment like that about you and Tam?

All joking aside, that frosts me pretty good.

  6. Robin, it's come up before, usually among young men with active imaginations.

Their fantasies are their own business; I am disinclined to play thoughtcop and indeed, hope they enjoy whatever they're picturing. --The reality is is couple of somewhat crabby old maids and two cats, in a very small house.

I expected better from one of the "graybeards." Ghu alone knows why.

  7. "it's come up before, usually among YOUNG men with active imaginations"

Hot damn, I haven't had anyone insinuate I'm young in decades.

Seriously, and as a Pratchett fan, I view both yourself and Tam as the 'gunny equivalent of Granny Weatherwax' (that is neither age nor lifestyle related as you'll know. Did I mention that Granny is my 'Beau Ideal', handsome, intelligent, capable, competent and independent ladies have an effect on me. I've met a few over the years but it always falls through, they just won't wear the big boots and pointy hat - spoil-sports! Any chance? Nah! ROFL).

As to 'the Jerk' what do you expect from someone who probably still lives in his mothers basement and who considers mouthing off on the internet as being cool because the big kids would pick on him if he tried it in the real world?

  8. Able: I am flattered to be compared to Granny Weatherwax -- and I own perfectly fine "big black boots" of the laceup sort, a pair of Milwaukees for motorcycling and knee-high Carolina Pole Climbers for general utility. (Tam wished a spare pair of Bates boots on me the other day, too).

As for the other, whatever kind of pinups you choose to decorate the inside of your head with is your lookout.

  9. (And I am obliged, 'cos I am fair-minded, to point out that AFAIK, neither Bill nor Kim live in their Mom's basement. Bill's sold plenty of books, under a number of names, for actual cash money. I have no idea what Kim does but he wasn't missing meals. A person can be a jerk without being a ne'er-do-well. There aren't any "Manners Police," and we're better off for the lack.)

  10. It's one of those data tricks, right? 6:32am post with little traffic yet for the same day. Graph look better yet? :-)

  12. Well there you go! Honesty, integrity, facts, logic and being fair-minded - the qualities exhibited by an adult in a debate. So, whether published or not, mentally they live in their mom's basement from my perspective.

(I was joking about my 'fantasy', honest! I'm viewed as weird enough as it is without being seen as a pointy-hat fetishist too! Oh! But, just as a matter of scientific curiosity, what colour are the Bates? ;-D )

  13. Hello test, hello test. Is this thing on? Sorry if this posts twice blogger is confusing as to whether it posted.

There 'ya go, back where you were before the Combat! incident. But now that I see there wasn't a precipitous drop in readers I can see what you mean about the bump in readership. I noted the weekend plus Monday bump and thought that was normal so I mis-focused on the Wednesday drop.

As for the bloggers that spoke ill of you, all I can say is that I read your blog much more than theirs.

  14. Please tell me you were riffing on one of my favorite Simpson's lines...

"The key to Springfield has always been Elm Street. The Greeks knew it. The Carthaginians knew it. Now you know it.”
