Why Lawnmowing Makes Me Sad (Plus, A Bleg!)
The front lawn at Roseholme (and the other neighbor's house):I don't know what they are (probably some kind of weed) but we have way more of these little white flowers than anyone else, a carpet on the lawn. Do any of you know what they are?I'm mystified -- but I like 'em. (So it's probably deadly nightshade or suchlike.)
Duh, they're Hygrangeums.
ReplyDeleteThey are actually Hygrangeeum Noturno Carnivourusa, The deadly flesh eating flower of the night.
ReplyDeleteDuring the full moon they transform and eat small barking dogs before returning to their lovely and peacful state.
Who would have planted them on your yard?
Gerry
They look mostly like the Spring Beauties I found here, to me.
ReplyDeleteSeems an innocuous plant.
Thems is wildwood flowers. Jim Stafford did a song about it (which I shall now attempt to locate and add to my MP3 collection).
ReplyDeleteNo, "Wildwood Flower" was a Carter Family standard, which Johnny Cash did another song about, featuring Mother Maybelle--not every man recrods asong with his mother-in-law!
ReplyDeleteJim Stafford's song was "Wildwood Weed", which, IIRC, was "ttto*".
(*Filk for "To The Tune Of." See Mudcat Bay)
WV: Waylia Klession. Obscure folk singer...
Err, could it be Western Springbeauty
ReplyDeleteClaytonia lanceolata Pursh?
Reminds me of a lawyer joke... "You'll really love my place, the grass is almost a foot high!"
ReplyDeleteWe call them "Hurricane Lilies" down here in Texas - they sprout at the beginning of the season.
ReplyDelete(probably some kind of weed)
ReplyDeleteOld gardener's saying: "A weed is just a flower growing where you don't want it." If you don't mind it being there, 't'ain't a weed.
I don't want to mow this year. I want to put up a sign proclaiming my yard as a wildflower preserve. I should get a grant from the city for my organic public art project.
ReplyDeleteHey, there are 2 colleges in this town. It could happen.
Could be chickweed, have you and Tam been walking barefoot outside? It can start that way.
ReplyDeleteDuring the full moon they transform and eat small barking dogs before returning to their lovely and peacful state.
ReplyDeleteSeriously? Can I get a transplant? I see an opportunity here!
What Dave said. It would be a simple elegant solution to a running battle I've been having with neighbor dogs.
ReplyDelete"They're MY moles and if I want them dug up, I'LL dig 'em up!"
It's kingsfoil! Pretty soon a non-lost wanderer will come around...
ReplyDeleteThey all got mowded. :(
