It might be that our local media is starting to get the message; the Indy 1500 Gun and Knife Show is back this weekend and one station reports, "We're already hearing about one anti-big government rally planned for
tomorrow just across the street from the Fairgrounds that's meant to
coincide with the show." Yes, even TV stations are quoting predictions of record attendance for the 1500. The Fox affiliate sticks a little closer to the Official Line, "Gun owners are rushing to stock up," ignoring the rush of first-time buyers. Another station pointed out the well-deserved skepticism with which some gun owners are greeting Senator Dan Coates's newfound love for the Second Amendment despite his having voted for the Brady Bill and original "assault Weapons" ban. Our local "newspaper" even tries to get it right -- and still manages to invoke the mythical "gun show loophole" in both headline and lede. (Print news: senile or incompetent?)
Some of the national/international media, snug in their echo chambers, continue to sound the gun-control tocsin. Others are starting to sound worried.
And they should be. The right to keep and bear arms is still a third rail in politics -- or perhaps a tempting-frozen streetlight pole on a cold winter's day. Despite past history, some politicians can't resist finding out for themselves. Tongue frozen stuck yet, Mayor Bloomberg? President Obama? Mr. Biden?
ETA: Joe Donnelly, still a cipher. Sleight of hand to avoid undue pressure from his own party, or just a slight? I dunno. But Joe, I will be checking your votes.
And lets hope some of them 'fry' on it...
ReplyDelete"....Invoke the Mythical Gun Show Loophole. Senile or Incompetent?"
ReplyDeleteUh, neither. Isn't Propaganda the Art of telling Lies over and over and over as if they were the Truth?
