20 years ago I took a class on Employee Assistance Program's. I was a Union Steward, and the Union wanted us to know what kind of assistance was available.
When the Welfare, Food Stamp and Social Security people talked to us, they told us that many people (of all races) were on their 3rd generation of living off of the rest of us. When the laws change to their advantage, they knew about it before the offices knew.
Things have NOT changed for the better since then.
So, sad to say, she's wrong. For way too many people, living on the dole is a career choice.
I agree with the part of the woman's rant about the media making a mistake by publicizing the story. The situation with the 15 children is tragic, and there are no good options. Leaving them with the completely irresponsible mother will just spread the bad life choices to the next generation. Putting them into the Child Protective Services meat grinder is at least as bad, unless Florida has a better CPS system that everywhere else I've read about. If I had an answer to this and similar conundrums, I'd be out there pitching it.
...Except a government that can order people neutered is way too powerful. (Indiana's, for instance, which did just that under the state eugenics laws, and kept doing it for a long, long time.)
I'm in a hotel with lousy connection, so I can't view it, but I can imagine... And for many it IS their career, poop out kids, and collect welfare... more kids = more money...
I don't know about a government ordering people to get neutered, on the other hand, I am just fine with "So, you and your cart load of children that you cannot support would like government assistance? No problem. Please sign here, let's schedule your vasectomy, Essure or tubal ligation and schedule your financial management classes and community service." "Oh, you did not realize that work and responsible behavior would be required of you. Let me be blunt: Do you want the assistance and are you willing to abide by these terms? No? I see. NEXT!"

Adams reminds me of the movie Idiocracy. We, the intelligent taxpayers, are being outbred by the lazy leeches.

ReplyDeleteThe tricky question is: "Now what?"
ReplyDeleteThere is no easy solution and the problem won't go away.
Personally, I think both father and mother should be neutered.
