Rannie, The Food Critic

I am pleased to have discovered there is one (1) additional brand of olive oil Rannie Wu will accept.  Well, the same brand, different variety: Bertolli "Light."  The were out of Bertolli "Classico," so I tried it instead.

Most of the other brands she has rejected in the past were either Extra Virgin, which I think is too strong-flavored for her, or they have a kind of bitter taste.  Bertolli gets consistently good reviews for flavor and purity.  Even by critics who aren't cats.

  1. I might have to try this with Elder Cat. He went from being a monster of 20+ pounds to a skinny old man of around 12 in only a year. He's 14 now, so it doesn't really worry me, as he sleeps a lot and doesn't appear at the chow bowl every five minutes like he used to. But a nice treat like this might lift his spirits, and it would probably be better for him than packaged kitty treats.

  2. Rannie sure does seem to like it.

  3. I mix olive oil into Jake's wet food, along with some metamucil. They help keep him regular and the oil makes his coat look lustrous.

A constipated cat is no fun. For they seem to go to places of comfort when that happens. Which is usually my bed...

  4. Rannie likes it and complains if she doesn't get any. Huck will have some if there's a saucer available, but doesn't beg for it the way Rannie does.

My previous two cats didn't like it -- but maybe I never offered them the right brand. They'd lick it off their noses (one way to feed oil to a cat) and didn't object to it if I used it to clean their ears (which is followed by intensive grooming).

  5. CM: My old Tomcat got Metamucil in his wet food for the last five or more years of his life and it seemed to help him.
