4G And 1920s Refrigerators?
So I was looking up frequencies used for 4G cell service in North America and noticed that while everyone else is LTE, Sprint was mostly WiMax -- and the thumbnail illustration for that showed something that looked unusual:
No, that's not really a "Monitor Top" fridge on the left, nor a smaller contemporary on the right. But it sure seemed so at first glance!

ReplyDeleteMy mother has one in the basement that was bought in 1935 that is still in use. I doubt it has been unplugged for more than five years combined in it's whole life.
Grandpa said to buy one with the works on top as he thought it would last longer...
The unit on the right in your post is shaped very much like a washing machine that may still be sitting out at my parents house ( the washing machine is a top loader, but the cabinet is similar ).
I think it came from the house trailer that they lived in while Dad was in the Army ( Korea era ) and was used while they paid off the land and built a house in 1958/1959. I lived in the trailer with them for the first 6 months or so of my life while they were finishing the house up.
Ah, memories...
Sprint gave up on WiMax when it got Betamaxed. IIRC they turned down their entire network and refarmed it for LTE a few years back.
