Restoration Hardware, which is similar to a trip to a museum:
Couldn't begin afford it (even if I had room for it) and, sadly, the not-always-well-sunk flathead Philips screws used to hold the nifty aluminum skin on the frame of the streamlined chair don't really resemble rivets on close inspection. But it sure is pretty to look at.
It really wouldn't be all that hard to make that chair with rivets. I'm assuming the one in the pic has a wooden frame that the woodscrews secure the aluminium skin. There are no compound curves and 1000 series sheet is easy to form. To fasten with rivets you would need to make 90deg aluminium cleats that are screwed to the frame. You would then rivet the skin on with Cherry rivets (not CherryMax, they require a pneumatic puller and are very expensive).

AL beat me to it, but it wouldn't be that hard to make it look correct. The biggest issue to be getting the weather properly aged.
ReplyDeleteLooks to me as if these had been subjected to the buffing wheel, possibly followed by a semi-gloss clear coat.
