I tried a toasted cheese sandwich with a fried egg in the middle. It's quite good, and would only be improved by the addition of a little breakfast meat of choice. Slice of rye, slice of Muenster, broken-yolk fried egg, cheese, bread, toast in skillet with a little butter.
It'll probably take two breakfasts of oatmeal to atone for it, but so it goes.
Huh, never thought of doing it that way... I just used buttered toast...
ReplyDeleteWow! You've invented the McMuffin.
ReplyDeleteWith better ingredients!
And.... now I need to try that. With bacon.
ReplyDeletePlus raw onions, if you're a raw onion on sandwiches kind of person.
ReplyDeleteMy wife bought me a pannini press for Christmas last year. I misplaced it in her closet until she found it when she was bringing out presents this year. I use it at least once a week, if for nothing more than a traditional grilled cheese sandwich, only using as you say, nice cheese, instead of the old velveeta. And today we had Cuban sandwiches.
ReplyDeleteAdding bacon or ham makes this the breakfast sandwich I used to make for myself nearly every day. Sometimes I'd switch the bread (usually rye, sometimes potato) out for a toasted onion bagel.
ReplyDeleteBut for some reason I've been eating fewer eggs lately. I suspect I am simply too lazy to cook them :)
