Rogues Gallery

Here are my ballot choices.  Note that several races have only one candidate.  I don't think that's a good sign.  Is there no Republican or Libertarian who considers him- or herself a good (and electable) alternative to State Representative Ed Delaney?  No one from the LP or GOP wants to try for the job of State Assessor or Washington Township Trustee?  Constable of the Small Claims Court?  (A thankless job.  We should probably be happy anyone's running for the office.)  Of course, I'll be voting to remove all the judges.  Nothing personal, I just think they shouldn't get too comfortable.

The following lists all of the public questions that will be on your ballot during the next election. Please note that this list of public questions is supplied and maintained by the Indiana Election Division and counties. If this information appears to be incorrect or incomplete, please contact the Indiana Election Division. A VOTER WHO IS NOT 18 IS NOT PERMITTED TO VOTE ON A PUBLIC QUESTION.

  1. "A voter who is not 18"?

    Then how can they vote?

  2. I vote no on judges, too, FWIW.

Unfortunately, Ed Delaney’s district — in which I am also gerrymandered — votes overwhelmingly Democrat, so nobody thinks it’s worth the candle to run as a Pub. There was a kid a couple of elections back who tried, but he got steamrolled.

At least I’m no longer in Andre’s district.

  3. B - I was reading that a different way. I was 18 years of age for only one year of my life -- sure I spent ~18 years before that birthday being "not 18" but I've noticed that since my 19th birthday that I'm once again "not 18".

I'm sure the intent is not to limit the franchise on questions to only those within their 19th year of life, but I've gotten in trouble for not reading policies literally in the past.

  4. B - and a more technical explanation for the boilerplate: Sometimes "public questions" appear on ballots in what would otherwise be a primary election. In Indiana people who will be 18 for an upcoming general election can vote in a party primary before their election, but are not allowed to vote on the questions.

  5. For my money you can strike all the democrats off. I might not vote for a republican but I will never vote for any democrat.

    Ever.
