The passing of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has certainly offered a peek into the hearts of many of my Facebook "friends." It has not been a uniformly pleasant or uplifting look.
Okay, fine, her opinions differed from yours. On many issues, they differed from mine, too. But she was a good lawyer, she took her job seriously and she did her homework. She was a little old lady and now she's dead. It's not weakness to show a little respect. If you can't do that, at least keep your fool yap shut until she's had a proper funeral.
I'm sure there will be a knock-down, drag-out fight over the next Supreme Court Justice (not to mention the meta-fight over the question of digging into it now or waiting until after the election). Why can't you at least wait until that mess gets underway?
It does bother me that her funeral has not even happened, yet alone her body hardly started to cool, and I have been seeing posts either exalting her or condemning her. For the record, I had many issues that I didn't agree with her on. But I never went to law school, nor served on any bench, or argued any cases before the SCOTUS, yet alone served on that most sacred of our institutions.
ReplyDeleteAnd from everything I have ever read about RBG, she was a truly decent and kind person, who was able to keep her judicial role separate from her personal life. She was friends with those who differed from her judicially, most notably, justice Scalia. I can only wish that she is able to rest in peace, knowing that her influence on females during her entire lifetime was one of the most important of all times. And also I hope that her memory will be honored, and that is the only thing we will think of, until we as a nation have finished with our goodbyes, before we see any movement towards her replacement. The when and how, of course, will come at the best time for the Republicans, since that is what they have already signaled.
