Good luck. I think it is okay to jokingly ask if they washed their hands REALLY well before they begin.
I had a diabetic eye exam this past Monday (looking for leaking blood in eye). I get nervous with people looking at my eyes too but I've never been harmed and in fact benefited from the work. No evidence of any leaks - that is peace of mind. Not looking forward to ever going blind if it can be helped.
Both of my implants clouded up and both were cleared with the laser. The procedure is tolerable. My left eye is as close to perfect as I could have hoped. My right eye is okay but did not turn out as good as the left. I'm overdue for a recheck.
Always apprehensive about any eye surgery but I've had that procedure done twice now and found it to be simple and painless without complications. I hope your experience is similar.
BTDT not to worry. Some paperwork probably, some time spent in examinations, then a few seconds of "look right at the flashy thing." If I recall, you have a visible target to look at, but the laser is not visible.

Laser surgery is still surgery and scary. Take a blankie with you - ; )
