Music

I'm sorry to say that Desmond Dekker is two years gone -- but his music remains.
Heard it for years before I had a clue to the lyrics. Cheerful, uptempo -- and desperate. Write your own current-events reference!

(Me, I am just out of a hot bath with muscle-relaxing bath salts, headed for the futon and a heating pad. Ahhhhh).

  1. A timeless classic, as fresh today as the first time I heard it a long time ago.

  2. I often relax in the car on the way home listening to a medly of Desmond Deckers hit.

Actually I always kinda liked the dub/reggae/ska type of thing but I could never afford to stay stoned long enough to truly understand it. Still, "israelite" is in constant rotation on the truck CD.

  3. I love his stuff!!! Big into ska, roots reggae, etc... My buddy DJ Dr Darren the Dentist spins Ska and roots reggae at Delilah's in Chicago on the last Thursday once a month.

Heh - I can't imagine Og being into Ska, though. But I guess a lots of folks could say the same for me...

FYI - the site http://youandmeonajamboree.blogspot.com/ makes a lot of roots reggae, ska, dub, etc available for free, legal, download... Some of the older links are expired, but he'll replays some albums a few times... Some of it is Portugese (he's in Brazil), but mostly he's in English.

  4. You know, I can't help but think that the lyrics from "007" are appropriate to our situation too...

And the rudeboys a go wail
    'Cause them out of jail
    Rudeboys cannot fail
    'Cause them must get bail
