Happy, Happy News

Dead Somali Pirate Washes Ashore, unspent ill-gotten gains still in pocket.

Okay, there's one. Increment until problem is solved.

Seriously, next time these punks grab a ship, why doesn't some public-spirited county just bomb it? Do that a few times and you'd be amazed how quick the pirates find another line of work. The surviving pirates, anyway.

  1. Almost an Artur Bloyd solution. In fact, I think it was mentioned in 'Planets for Sale' by A.E. Van VOGT.

Bet you have two copies. :-)

  2. I always thought that these pirated ships would be good live fire training for the worlds spec ops units.

What, another ship's been taken. Who's on tap for this one? South Africa? This should be fun to watch.

  3. It's all about insurance... Once they get approval to arm the ships, Stand by :-)

  4. Carteach, I do not think I do -- but your comment led me to a most fascinating Wiki wander; spent time with van Vogt and E. Mayne Hull, Wilmar H. Shiras, Avram Davidson and R. A. Lafferty.... Time well spent.

  5. Oh, I am completely in favor of arming the ships! Shoot back, dammit.

It was a shock to me when the Saudis paid up the other day; I thought the were bloodier-minded than that. At the very least, a spoonful of anthrax with the ransom money....

  6. Ma'am, your idea will not work. It just makes too much sense. A sensible solution will never fly! The problem will actually be solved, and no one will make money over "managing" a solvable problem.

Much more implementable: send them an angry letter from the U.N. And if they continue, send an angrier letter!

  7. Roberta, seeing as I'm sailing in the area, I'd appreciate a different solution.
I can say that .50 tracer makes a wonderful repellent.
