Frank W. James On Modern Political "Choices"

I'm slowly coming to the conclusion after listening to all the balderdash out of Washington DC and elsewhere that I'm neither a liberal or a conservative in terms of my political slant. I would opt for the term Libertarian, but I'm not sure that is safe either.

So far I haven't seen anything that warms the cockles of my heart in terms of present political philosophy from anyone on either spectrum.

Amen, brother, amen!

RTWT. And politicians? When you've lost guys like Mr. James, you've lost this country's heart.

  1. Perhaps "pragmatists" might fit.

Or "surly curmudgeons, suspicious and lacking in altruism" (thank you RAH).

The latter being what I generally consider myself.

  3. I like everything og said. He speaks with the voice of a caveman but the wisdom of the ages.

I once heard of the 3 G's party: God, Guns, and Get the Hell off of my property.

One category I'm fond of is anarcho-capitalist. I don't know if it's practical, but what we've got now sure isn't. If anarcho-capitalism is only as awful as what we've got now and with less government, that's a big win. See David Friedman's "The Machinery of Freedom: Guide to a Radical Capitalism."

  4. @og,
McGehee beat you by a year:
    GET OFFA MY LAWN! Party:

You want to tax me for the bribes you’re offering people to vote for you? GET OFFA MY LAWN!

You want to impose limits on the kinds of food I eat, based on junk science? GET OFFA MY LAWN!

You want to drag the freest and most prosperous society in human history back to the Stone Age because some wacko claims we’re going to burn the planet to a crisp and drown those cuddly polar bears? GET OFFA MY LAWN!

You want to kill me and everyone else who doesn’t share your belief in the holiness of a meteorite in Mecca? GET OFFA MY LAW^H^H^H PLANET!

    More here.

  5. I agree with Frank. I used to be a Republican. Now, about the best I can determine is that I'm a Jacksonian Conservative. I agree with a lot of the Libertarians but too many of them have the Ostrich syndrome for my taste.

  6. Yeah, I completely agree with Frank. I called myself Libertarian for many years. I'm not so sure I fit in their party anymore.

It seems of late that the Libertarians have become nothing more than a retirement home for disgraced Republicans.

I'll just call myself a Threeper and let that be it.

  7. I was thinking about this, and it occurs to me that there are basically two groups of people:

Those who would use force to impose their opinions on others, and those who would use force to resist such impositions.

  8. I'm a single issue voter. So, I call myself a "heavily armed moderate".

  9. Bobbi: Thanks for the bump.

I'm thinking aside from the 2nd Amendment issues which are my Spine, I'm thinking I might be a political J-Walker?

  10. Barry Goldwater's

with reference to Gred Gutfield quote, “I became a Conservative by being around Liberals and I became a Libertarian by being around Conservatives.”

But yeah, there are libertarians, and there are Libertarians, and there are Party members.
