Elephant Hatchery

No, really! --I was looking for the Bugatti hood ornament, a beautiful image which has a sad story behind it.

  2. I have been fortunate to see a 1931 original. The whole automobile, not merely the mascot. The Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, MI owns one and it was exhibited / driven at the Old Car Festival at Greenfield Village in 2007 (pictures available upon request). Otherwise it is on permanent display in the museum itself. It is an absolutely huge car and has to be seen to be believed.

  3. The Bugatti? --Love to see photos! (I don't know what, or even if the elephant-hatching one is from). The whole notion of putting a small (sculpted) creature on the prow of one's car to go "Wheeee!" in the breeze is an entirely charming whimsy -- someone ought to be enjoying it.

  4. As you might imagine, there is an aftermarket for hood ornaments on big rigs.
