The Sigil Of The Starship Lupine

I've finally got a copy posted at I Work On A Starship. I had to track down the artist who did the civvy version after the ship's warship days were ended by the Agreement of 1989. My search ended up in a surprising place.

What sort of guy could take a snarling wolf's head profile and charm it into enjoying the trip? The multi-talented, occasionally pantsless hero of the blogosphere Robb Allen, that's who!

  1. Very nice! Although, I've heard that wolves can have a changeable nature. I think I see a hint of that, too. Are you *sure* there's nothing interesting left in obscure corners of such an immense vessel?

  2. Oooo, I need a t-shirt, or a patch...or both!

    Vw: allot
    See? Even Captcha agrees!

  3. Ritchie: One can never be too sure.

There's a lot of empty space on the biggest starships; there is no single hull, rather a series of interconnected structures and vast trusses, huge racks for containerized cargo, tanks of this and that...and, well, who knows?

The concept was that huge ships like Lupine and Vulpine would be like shotgun shells -- enter a system at a significant fraction of light speed, drop off a series of small and comparatively expendable fighting vessels to subdue the locals, and zip through to safety without slowing. You'd think something the size of a sublight parasitic attack ship would be impossible to misplace, but...

(BTW, the joke among the in the know, way back when, was that the next in line would be seriously up-armored and named Porcupine. Peace broke out just in time; another that size would've made an even bigger mess of the black budget).

  4. Sweet. Want. Patch by preference; I'm a work/polo shirt kind of guy, t-shirts just tend to show off gut and ride up. And you really didn't want to know the latter before coffee.

    Or after.

  6. I'll be getting one - shiny!

Any tradition of ship insignia as tattoos among the spacers?

  7. Why, naturally!

Coffee mug is up now. T-shirt, I can do one with a smallish, pocket-size logo; have to scale the art up to do a big ol' one. Which would T-shirt fans prefer?
