Presidential Choices

Not the dreadful menu of "one from Column A (again!) or one of four from Column C," or even the various a la cart improbables, the choice you make about 'em.

Tam, this morning, "It's to the point where you want Romney to win just so Teh Won doesn't -- but not quite enough to vote for him."

Me, I'd be happy if we never had another second-term President in my lifetime. They get up to too much mischief.

  1. I'd kind of heard that kicked around a bit...give them one six-year term they don't need to worry about making friends their first term, so that they can finally accomplish something consequence free in their 2nd term...

  2. Not good with that, either -- let 'em hope, just don't ever vote 'em in twice.

  3. Well, I'm hoping that enough of our Fellow Citizens agree with you come November.

Now, if we could only get rid of those Congress Critters who rigged things with their "Safe Districts" so they STAY in office forever...."At Large" for Congressional Representation sounds better all the time. Works for the Senate.

But that would mean New York City gets to Rule New York State, Chicago gets to Rule Illinois,...sigh!

Maybe we should bring back the Draft for Congress? And if you're healthy enough, you HAVE to play, or you don't get any Free Cheese. Do a 2 year hitch, then you can regain your Freedom. Can't be any worse than some of those Cretins living inside the Beltway off our Taxes forever and ever and ever....

  4. I'm going with the Syphilitic Camel theory. Because the damage The One has done is too great.

Why stop at President? I'd apply that logic all the way across DC.

  6. I've never voted for a candidate, but every election I vote against several.

  7. I can honestly say I've never voted for a presidential candidate. I hope that, sometime in my life, I will be able to vote for someone instead of against someone else.

  8. I agree. One term of four years is generous enough for the professional pol.

  9. In reference to BobG...

I've often wished we had the option of voting FOR (+1 to Total Votes)any one Candidate (I think this is the Best Person for the Job), or AGAINST (-1 to Total Votes) any one Candidate (Oh DEAR GAWD, anybody but Him/Her/It). Then the person with the most Votes (or least Negative) would be the one in the Seat knowing really how the Electorate felt about them.

  10. Definitely. They have too much flexibility after the final election.

  11. Eaxactly. Or (lite version) maybe we should have a confirmation vote every six months during their second term. Something.

...Elsewhere, my buddy Carl B. has pointed out "no second term" doesn't go far enough: remove temptation by removing the office! Good idea, but we may have to work up to it.

(Of course, one of the worlds in Cordwainer Smith's fictional universe seems to have done something along those lines...and ended up with the Onsec (Hon. Sec.) running things. Once you start, you have to keep hacking away at the underbrush!)
