Chicago Pyschic Rift Update

Early Edition, that's the other fantasy/paranomral drama set in Chicago and forming, along with Kolchak: The Night Stalker, The Dresden Files, Special Unit 2, Due South, films including The Relic, Flatliners and Chain Reaction along with the Child's Play movies (plus a number of novels, including Fritz Lieber's The Sinful Ones) a chilling documentary of the terrifying truth about the City With Broad Shoulders (and a lycanthrope infestation).

This explains the gun thing up there -- the city administration is afraid that when it comes to the genuine horrors stalking the streets, unlike the made-up-for-tourists problems stemming from gangs, drugs and grinding poverty, firearms would just get 'em riled. Rahmbo's busy fightin' the real enemy. ...Or perhaps he has mistaken fantasy and reality?

(Speaking of books and such, there's a whole pile of good old fiction at Munseys.com, much of it at popular prices: free. --And his troubles with Amazon anent e-publishing pretty much mirror Carl Busjaeger's. Seems the big river, not so fond of tributaries it doesn't control and not at all happy to deal with one-man shops. Corporations: get big enough, they start actin' like governments).

  2. The Kolschak Night Stalker book series puzles the heck out of me.

It looks to be aimed at a juvenile reading level, very short book length less than a novella I think, and yet it uses Darren McGavin's likeness for cover art.

Who among the target reading age ever say those TV shows? I can't even recall when they last were in reruns.

  4. Rahm is one of the genuine horrors. He's just protecting his own.

  5. Well, Munseys does appear to be a variation on the Gutenberg project. Thanks for the tip...

(@Don, @Mike, 'gutenberg' has one 't' in it, not two.)

  6. My favorite Kolchak was set in Seattle: pity the show got the origin of Seattle Underground wrong. Seems that at times flush toilets turned into twenty-foot fountain displays at high tide, so eventually the whole place was raised...

    Freebies...

I can't afford a Kindle, but the PC app is free. And thanks to WOOT, I've gotten some free books from Amazon: haven't figured out how to find the freebies myself yet, doggonit. And 99-centers.
