A Peek Behind The Curtain

...At RXC3I:
Still anything but neat, it is getting organized.  Real-estate taxes and doctor stuff in the clips waiting to get filed.  On the desk, tools left over from installing the color-coded clips, my "wheelbarrow full of cash," Vitamin I, clutter.  Some research materials on the shelf and, on the desk to the left of the keyboard, I Work On A Starship notes and related items -- the bound black notebook is labeled The Hidden Frontier Factbook, which I am slowly filling in with everything I already knew.  ;)  (Gah!  The keyboard is way overdue for a wash!)

Some handy gadgets on the hutch verticals: a "Command" cord bundler, stuck on with their clever damage-free adhesive, holds USB cables; on the right, smaller hooks from the same company (a 3M division) work really well with some tiny bungee-loops with molded on hooks to hold small items.  The color-coded clips across the top are an updating of the old office "spikes."  Very handy for sorting and you don't impale your hand even on a clumsy morning.

  1. NO MORSE KEY (S) FOR CW?

  2. There are 25 bugs and straight keys on the shelves at the other side of the room -- until recently, my desktop was too crowded to be a safe place for a telegraph key!

  3. YOUR DESK IS FAR MORE ORGANIZED AND NEATER THAN MINE!

  4. Lovely Bride fair swooned at the sight of your desk. She thought mine was bad! ;-)

I think my desk-top probably needs a wash too, that's a guess since I haven't seen it since 'The Great Taking Max [the GSD] To The Vets Debacle of 07' which resulted in a new screen, disinfection of a selection of pharmacotherapeutics tomes (stress induced dribble, His I hasten to add!) and my, fortuitously, finding where I'd left the keys to the Pinzgauer. (He really [no I mean REALLY] hates the vets).

Oh, and mine has cup-holders ;-p

  6. Honestly, I look at that desk and the first word that comes to mind is .....

    Comfortable.

  7. I must say I'm impressed. I think I have you beat for volume of stuff, but yours is more compact.

Please tell us that rotary-dial phone is live. :)

  8. It's live, Jed. It's one of two WeCo 300s on the desk, in fact. And they both work.

Able, my computer came with an electrically-driven cup holder but it won't bear much weight. Silly design.

Across and around the room, 25 keys, two of them part of very nice "buzzer sets" on wood bases; also two telegraph sounders, at least a half-dozen microphones and three typewriters. 'Cos you never know.

  9. Is that a hand crank drill at the bottom left of your monitor?

  10. For future reference, the best way to deal with a dirty keyboard is to get one that's black with black keys. Guaranteed to look clean no matter how long you go between cleanings.

And btw, your desk is already a marvel of neatness compared to mine. I don't keep anything important on my desk (or my dresser), because anything other than my computer that ends up on my desk inevitably ends up "being in there somewhere or other".

  11. Actually, there's one waiting in the on deck circle: nearly all my desktop computer hardware comes from the discard bin at work.

  13. As long as YOU know where everything is.....it's organized.
