This is the first time I've encountered the word "terabecquerel." Then again, I've led a sheltered life. (I knew "becquerel" had replaced "curie," but I never think in terms of big numbers: my terabyte-sized hard drive seems immeasurably large, but five years down the road I'll be screaming for more space.)
I have never, in all my computer owning, filled a hard drive. I've have 'em a bit over half-full a few times.
It's not discipline so much as avoidance: I've always stayed very close to the knee of the price-per-byte curve, buying the largest drive I could afford. --And no games. I know myself for an addict and learned it when "computer" was something large in the basement of the maths building.

I once thought a terabyte HD was impossible to fill.
ReplyDeleteThen Nikon and Canon bumped up the ante' with 12, 16, 24, and 36 megapixel DSLR cameras.
Even at my current D300 12 megapixel rate, my RAW files can consume vast amounts of HD space, forcing me to exercise some discipline in culling files.
I can only imagine what the 36 megapixel D800 would do for storage space after a weekend shooting wildlife, outdoor scenes, etc.
I know Oleg is using dedicated fileserver hardware, and I've started to do the same. Then there's video...
