The Wounded, Walking

Tam and I are both off to doctoring this morning, or maybe later -- I ripped the toenail almost clean off my left pinky toe three days ago.  Stumbled into furniture getting read for work and it hurt like pure-dee hell, but I didn't look down because, well, getting-ready-for-work.  And when it came to putting-on-socks time, I did look and lo, the Toe Of Pain was also covered in (now crusting) blood.  Cleaned up, applied bandage, and have been repeating the procedure twice a day ever since, but it's gone a bit-- Um.  Let's just leave it as "gone a bit odd," and move on--

And in our next showcase, The Tamara, who last night was enjoying a lovely pizza until a grabby bit of melted cheese made off with a tooth cap.  The hardware has been recovered and preserved but my offer of superduperglue was refused.

So we have each got to have these little items looked at and perhaps repaired.  Migawsh, the fun.  The glamor.

UPDATE: Got Tam's dental work done -- it took like four hours.  My toe, not so much.  Maybe tomorrow after work.

  1. Augh. I pulled off a crown last fall with a caramel, and broke a tooth last summer on an over-dry-roasted peanut, and I've been tooth-shy ever since. (The crown replacement was no big deal).

Also, foot stuff - I do not know why it should be so but it seems that even minor bumps hurt FAR FAR more than they should.

As they say on a board I frequent, mojo that the fix is quick, painless, and inexpensive.

  4. Ouch. That sort of thing can lead to paronychia - a term of which that I was blissfully unaware until the little one did just what you describe to one of his toes. It is treatable, and rather simply, too.

"I've got paronychia of the great toe of the left foot!" Heard that phrase repeated many, many times over several weeks. Worse yet, to anyone he would meet, anywhere, and loudly.

Hope you both get better soon.

  5. Be careful with the cleaning. When that happened to me, a fungus set up shop and nothing would help it, not even the internal anti-fungal medicines. Since it eventually turned into a gnarly, 3/16" thick yellow, bumpy mass, I had it removed totally (with acid) because the chances were even with removal and regrowth, that fungus was so tough and persistent there was a good chance it would still be there.

  6. Bottom line: Getting old is not for the weak.

My FIL just had four count-em four root canals and crowns done. In the same sitting.

I got nothin', compared to that.

  8. Fuzzy, by any chance does your FIL go bear hunting with a willow switch?

Glad to hear Tam's problem was cleared up with a little JB Weld. Hope yours is as easy to fix.
