"Looky Here, In The Porlock Observer...."

Tam and I get along well, but there are days when we take turns being one another's person from Porlock.  Other days, it's the calendar's turn -- this morning during breakfast, I was pondering a fairly light-hearted story from Alaska (for paranoid-theorist values of "light-hearted") as a launching-point for a blog post while Tam watched the news, when she suddenly realized it was trash day and very near the time the trucks start.*  Mad dash ensued, and now I'm back to breakfast.

Meanwhile, the news drones on with photos, full name and half-informed speculation about the college shooter in Oregon, press and politicians blithely, blissfully unaware that the more attention they heap on pathetic losers who harm easy victims, the more of them there will be.  They're rewarding the behavior and continuing to fail to harden the target.  Yeah, keep on blaming me and people like me instead -- who'm I after all, who are we all but powerless worker bees in the vast, dull middle of the country who own guns and use them responsibly, not very photogenic, easy to blame, easy to push around.  By the time I retire, we'll probably be accused of poisoning wells and stealing babies.  Accused by persons from Porlock and by their Great Leaders, and taken out with the trash.

* The sadists who run trash pickup vary their starting locations from time to time, which changes their pickup time.  Our truck is usually by about 9:00 a.m. but is occasionally as late as 11:00 or as early as 7:00.

This is where you have it wrong . They know exactly how the fame incites another waste of skin to do the same circus trick and get on tv. They just value ratings more than life itself

  2. FWIW, the local sheriff refuses to name the shooter, saying he wants to deny the dirtbag the fame he so craved.

Note Reuters use of scorn quotes in the title.

  3. Hmmm.... hard to be nice on this one.

The solution to this pimple on the face of America is painfully obvious, yet the powers-that-be, snug in their well-secured offices, are again wanting to further punish the innocent to preserve the status-quo.

And the status-quo will remain so until collective heads are pulled from anal sphincters and realize (again) that an armed society is a polite society. And overall, a much safer society.

Little chance of that happening though. Stand by for more urgent messages and hand wringing from 'der fuhrer', extolling the virtues of an unarmed proletariat (sorry for mixed metaphors, it's still early in the day.

  4. As also stated elsewhere...

True irony is embodied in acting exactly like a "professional" politician - albeit, doing a "professionally"-bad job of it - while ignorantly attempting to appear to be some form of "statesman-like" so-called "public servant", in the pursuit of convincing regular folks that their best chance, really, at collective and/or individual physical safety is to voluntarily relinquish possession of the exact and only effective means by which such safety may be obtained - to wit, the natural right of a strong self-defense, in the form of firearms - and/or forcing, by law, all regular, normally-law-abiding persons to choose between giving up such possessions or to become, by default, a criminal scofflaw...whilst meanwhile maintaining said "public servant"'s own heavily-armed circle of protection (a circle that, increasing of late, is definitely needed to protect that "servant" from the fully-justified ire of his "constituents", those he alleges he is "assisting" or "benefiting")

That's a deep-triple-dipped irony, that is - it's also the very essence of Barky Insane Obambam's latest pronouncements on the subject of guns and the expression of the right to personal self-defense...

    'Nuff said.

  5. When you Retire? Trust me, you are ALREADY on some of the Anti-Gunners "Death Wish List" for your "Crimes against Humanity." Just check out Joe Huffman's Blog for a few weeks. It's amazing that there's that much Hatred and Vitriol being spewed against people like you and me from all the "Peace-Loving Unicorn Riders" out there.

  6. Dead on, Roberta, except for the "not very photogenic" part.

  7. I dunno, but I suspect some trash truck drivers vary their route because doing the same route at the same time gets to be old. Or maybe the drivers like doing the same route at the same time, but there is some eager beaver in the office who can't leave well enough alone and changes the schedule to keep hisself amused. I think we need a documentary, or maybe a reality TV show: 'Real Trash Truck Drivers of Indianapolis'.
