Crash!

Firefox is unhappy again.  Or maybe it's my hardware.

Either way, this is exactly why the Raspberry Pi sits quietly on one of the pull-out typewriter shelves, ready to be powered up.  I can troubleshoot the big machine once I've made a blog post.

Oh, here we go: a massive Windows update has jammed things up. That'll do it. Guess it's time to give the Windows-based laptop and Surface a quick drive around the block, too.

  1. I haven't had any problems with FF in ages. Well, it does get pissy if there is an update downloaded but waiting for install.

Windows does the same thing on patch Tuesday. (I've taken to "pausing updates" and then starting them manually right before I turn in.)

Are you sure you don't have a failing hard-drive? Something that intermittently can't read a sector? The only other thing I can think of is interference by antivirus software.

  2. How do you like browsing the web with your Raspberry Pi? I have a Pi 4 running Pi-Hole here, and sometimes I open up a browser window to see how things look from that system. Not too shabby, all things considered!

  3. The Pi is fine -- keyboard buffer is a little slow but otherwise, it's a fine machine for casual Interneting. It can't write files to Dropbox, which is a drawback, and it can't run Scrivener but otherwise it's a useful computer. Which is pretty amazing, really.
