Missed One

I should have known better, but I skipped posting yesterday: if it was going to be the start of WW III, there was no point, and if it wasn't -- well, here I am.  It wasn't.  That was always the most likely outcome, but in recent years, I've become skeptical of the odds; it feels as if we're always on the edge of Heinlein's "The Year of the Jackpot."

No three-lemons sour payoff yet.  Humanity has spent most of our existence dancing on the edge of a volcano but I swear, some of us are starting to get into deliberately jostling everyone else.

  1. It's a lot like the inexperienced 'outsider' at the casino who hits a lucky streak, and tells themselves that they have an Infallible System for Success. Then, there's a few bad hands & bum rolls, so they've lost most of their winnings and even some of their initial bankroll. We're now at the part where they almost busted out, but caught a lucky spin and won enough to keep them in the game. All they time telling themselves that their System will get them a win this next time, guaranteed.

  2. FYI: Comp Car's Beat's ISP seems to have gone TU.

    1. Yep. Her provider got out of the blog-hosting business and she decided the heavy lift of moving her years of blog wasn't something she wanted to do. She comments here from time to time and it's always good to hear from her.

    2. Sadly true, Comrade & Roberta. Nice being missed, thanks. If I can find a provider with a product I like at a reasonable price, I may establish a new blog, but please do not hold your breath.
