"HDTV" Defined
I've figured it out: what "HDTV" means in Middle-Class Geek (and the poorer dialects) is "Go read a book." There are some beautiful HD displays out there and they're getting better all the time. I'd still rather spend $4.00 on a Dean Ing paperback.
You got THAT right! Best time I ever has was reading "The Count of Monte Cristo". Thackeray wrote that he picked it up at 6 AM and couldn't put it down 'til 9 PM. And I love movies, but books? No contest!
I succumbed a few months back... but only because I found one of those "deals of the century". Picked up a Hitach 51F59 for $599... 51" 1080i, and it still wrangles and herds electrons with vacuum and electromagnets like God and DeForrest intended!
Now, if I could ever watch it more than 3-4 hours a week...

HDTV has some uses; you should see Battlestar Galactica and Firefly on it; very cool. Mine is only a 42", but the difference is quite striking.
ReplyDeleteI grant you it is striking. I work around the stuff all day!
ReplyDeleteTo me it is not price-of-my car striking; it's not even cost-of-a-used-motorcyle striking.

I just do real-time first person shooter games.
ReplyDeleteMeaning, "I use that type of $$ to spend on bullets and IPSC match fees!!"
Why live vicariously, eh?
