And it was great. With such a collection of widely-travelled storytellers, there was no dearth of conversational give and take, the kind of "round table" one can only hope for.
Bloggers and spouses, clockwise starting at lower left: Old Grouch, Roberta X, Tamara K, Ogwife, This Space Intentionally Not Og, Caleb, Mark Alger. Not shown, Frank W. James and a delightful blog-reading couple.
Conversation was wide-ranging, from Frank W. James' insights about gunny publishing (alas, much like SF publishing, though with fewer lawsuits) to Classical music to the best place to bury concrete stairs, with detours through choice items like what happens if one drinks a lava lamp. You should have been there!
Other highlights? Look closely at Ogwife's place-setting: that's a sample of all the in-house brews! Not a free education in comparative beer but an excellent start. (She advises against the porter unless you're really into such things, but found their wheat beer and Del Sol enjoyable). (Update: Caleb liked the porter. See, this is why trade works). I'm deep into my second hard cider, which is way plenty for a country gal. Scotch eggs were shared around, a treat I try not to miss, but not even following them with a buffalo burger and pub chips kept me fully anchored. The male half of our blogreading couple wore a wonderful kilt, one of the heavy-duty types (a real Utilikilt! Neokilt*) that are showing up; sported a belt fully 3" wide with a well-anchored utility compartment for a multi-tool and flashlight.
The weather was sparkling, the conversation scintillating and the staff at BRB was only moderately flustered by our impromptu seating rearrangements. Looking forward to next time!

We're There!Look: Broadripple's only skyscraper!

ReplyDeleteGrey sky from
TFL
I SO wish I could've been there.
ReplyDeleteLove the pix. Look! Broadripple is green!
It looks like you all had a grand time! I can't wait for June! (can I start lobbying for a mid- to late-June date now?)
ReplyDeleteCan you say "Witness protection"? I knew you could!
ReplyDeleteNote to self: Next time don't lean BACK.
ReplyDeleteUm... June?
(Don't push it, Alger.)

by the way - is it just me or does Tam look like she's up to something in that photo? A definite smirk. =)
ReplyDeleteI disagree, the porter was magnificent...of course, I don't trust any beer that I can see through.
ReplyDeleteSorry I missed it. I got to till the garden and sunburn instead. Hopefully next time.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to second Breda's lobbying effort and refine the date choice (if I may be so bold) to the 15th or the 22nd.
ReplyDeleteI get the impression, Breda (based on two hours' acquaintance) that Tam is ALWAYS Up To Something. A sign of an active mind.

Meeting blog celebrities are in real life - this is gonna be fun!...& the 22nd would be the best for us.
ReplyDeleteIf only I lived closer to the Midwest I'd be SO up for an event like this. I'd have to take the photo, naturally, to maintain my Sooper Sekrit Identity.
ReplyDeleteIt was a great time. My wife and I enjoyed meeting all of the people who can actually express themselves.
ReplyDeleteI have one correction, it was a neokilt, not a utilikilt. The difference is the owner of neokilt is a marine and RKBA friendly. The built-in holster is great. http://www.neokilt.com/accessories.html
Thanks,
Kerry and Barb
PS: If we need a larger place for June, I have a great bar with outdoor fireplace and plenty of parking.
I'll edit the posting to reflect the right mfr,Kerry.
ReplyDeleteIn re the bar, do tell! BRB is nice -- and Breda may insist, as she enjoys microbrews -- but Tam and I plan to make this a regular event, and sample many locations.
It was a pleasure meeting you and Barb!
I'm going to have to make the drive from Dayton for the next meetup. Maybe by that time I'll have actually posted something to my blog, which has no posts in the six months since I set it up.
ReplyDeleteWow - so cool - I was right to envy you all! Glad you had such a grand time.
ReplyDeleteLooks like it was a good time. Sorry I missed out. Hopefully I'll be able to meet everyone in June.
ReplyDeleteGraveyard shift or not, I was gonna take the next flight out, but there aren't any that would get me there in time.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a Swiss Army Kilt!
It is a private bar in my house. (sorry, it is my pride and joy) It seats about 15-20 comfortably, inside. I always keep a keg on tap. Right now, it's Bell's Amber. My wife keeps the wine stocked. At last count it was over 100 bottles. Outside, we have a huge yard with a fireplace and outside seating. I'd love to host one of the get-togethers.
