I hope you get to the root of the problem - and its not roots...
If you can take a shower BEFORE the plumber arrives, it can't be all that bad.
It's a combined shower and tub: I closed the drain. Then all it takes is the willpower to take a quick shower,
"No, I'm off to the shower, to wash up quickly before the plumber arrives."
