Media Survey?
Maybe just a show of hands-- Who here thinks if a couple of desperate men had escaped from a prison in Kansas or Alabama or some other "flyover" state last week and remained on the loose, it would be still be top-of-the-newscast national news? --Ah, but it happened in New York, where real people live!
Considering how the media reacts to dangerous heat/cold/rainfall in "flyover land" vs. the east coast, yeah, I agree. (They were going EHRMAGERD IT'S 90 IN NYC on some channel the other day and I was like, "Honey, please" sitting in my little town where it was 95 with a heat index of 105....)
Ehh. It didn't happen in "New York", since no real people live north of Westchester county. This happened "upstate", which is at least 90% of the way to flyover country.
What Anon said, except it was so far upstate that no one flies over it except to get to Toronto.
But your general point is true. If Sandy had hit anyplace but New York City, it would have been a regular run of the mill hurricane and not a SUPERSTORM OMG11! (This said as a Floridian who has sat out a few of them.)
I'm just glad it's in upstate New York, I'm still recovering the non-stop Eric Frein coverage I was exposed to living within 50 miles of where he got all shooty. If it was anywhere near the PA border we'd probably be getting bombarded again every hour of every day with updates containing breaking news to let us know that nothing has changed since last week.
Meanwhile the two largest cities near me (Williamsport and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton) have a half dozen shootings a week that are barely worth a mention because, hey, they're only shooting little people.
I've long since stopped wondering about things proggies do. Proggies will be proggies. The solution is to remove them from office and bar them from public life, and not to be too ungentle about it if possible.

It was definitely the proximity to the flagpole that got this thing its media legs.

I saw an article on the subject that had the author considering a fainting couch because The People we (gasp) arming themselves! With GUNS!
Well, the place they escaped from is named "Clinton."
