And It All Lurches On

     I have stopped asking "What's next?"  I don't want to know. 

     Increasingly, it looks like our species' present troubles are the answer to the Fermi Paradox.

You have a point. Earth is likely found to be fairly unimpressive by any aliens looking for a good place to explore, compounded by how we humans are likely to be judged by such beings.

Actually, I was thinking that species that become advanced enough for space travel die off before they get very far, having developed hyper-destructive technologies (thermonuclear weapons, etc.) and enabled the rapid spread of infectious disease through easy, cheap global travel. There are plenty of other heightened risks to add to the list, too.

More like, the aliens have taken a look at us, locked their doors and kept going.

We *call* it the cosmic electromagnetic background, but it's *really* the wavefront from UFO doors being locked as they pass by.
