The nature of my employment is such that we're lucky to get any holiday off. The day after? Nope. Oh, there are rare exceptions; corporate largesse for the day after Thanksgiving has come along once or twice, and I think we got New Year's Day once -- in the past thirty-plus years.
Today is not one of those days off. I do get to start my day a little later than usual. And, for the first time since April of 2020, I'll be down at the Main Campus. With...people. I have not set foot inside the place for the past eighteen and a half months, so that's going to be a bit of a hurdle. There are a lot of new faces (the Great Resignation hit us, too) and I'm not all that comfortable even around people I know.
To add insult to injury, there's something wrong with my car. Day before yesterday, it suddenly started running rough and lit up a pair of warning lights that Tam tells me frequently mean the gas cap has come loose (she looked it up). Unfortunately, mine has not. So it needs to go into the shop, and sooner rather than later. I may have to beg Tam to ferry me to and from today.

Here's to hoping that your vehicle woes are sorted simply, speedily and cheaply!
How in the world do you ever have time to do your blogging/writing? Some of us who were fortunate enough to have worked in an industry with standard holiday time that included the week between Christmas and New Year's Day, are apt to forget that others actually work during all of that time. As far as I recall, although I was nearly always "on call" for those holidays, I only actually had to work 8-10-hour days over one holiday stretch - in 1977. I was "on loan" to a different division of our company that year (doing fail-safe flutter analyses on a new jet). When he sent me across town, my boss hadn't told me much: just to whom to report and that he, my boss, would be sure that I was taken care of for taking the 6-week assignment without fussing.
Not only did I get bonus pay for working those holidays, being paid as if I had worked 93 hours that week, but my boss gave me a week off (dates of my choosing) without docking my pay, the next spring. In some ways, I found my boss a less than admirable person; but, he really took care of his people! May he rest in peace.
Oh, gosh -- I get up and write something every morning. I have made a habit of it. Too rarely, fiction.
Except for six months as a factory tech, I have worked at jobs where you worked every holiday (and either got paid extra or worked a shortened day), or, later, where you only worked a few of them; but they never come with extra days. My family was in the habit of scheduling Family Thanksgiving for the Friday after, and never did figure out that I had to work that day. They liked the day after Christmas, too, which was also a wash.
