Monday

I went to some effort to return to work, and got chided for it.  Because the doctor put restrictions on my activity, there are more Forms to be Filled Out and approved, via a not very obvious procedure with a third party, and until they are, I cannot go back.

It's not deliberately Kafkaesque, it's just a ramshackle structure put together to deal with the various contracts, rules and laws that apply, or that might apply, or that some attorney woke up thinking would be a problem unless....  But it falls to me, the person with the back problem, to lift it and carry it, and I'm not as good at it as I probably should be.

Where does it leave me?  I don't know.

So you're in charge of coordinating your return to light duty work but not being compensated for the work of returning to work?

Keep good notes and submit a time sheet for the labor involved.

When I hurt my knee (not a work injury), I discussed it with the Chief, and he was fine with me doing only what I thought prudent. I certainly didn't push it, even though I'm a stubborn cuss that felt a bit useless not being able to do what I once did. I protected my knee, and after therapy, I am (carefully) climbing ladders and getting on the floor (but only with a plan, and some padding). I am working low in equipment racks more from a steno chair than from my knees.

Ha! I'd love to have the kind of job that paid me to do my own paperwork!

These days you have to be diligent and proactive to get the proper and timely care you need. Be persistent and push for results. This ain't like getting aspirin at the local drug store. Ask me how I know.

Yes, I used to live in that world, too. Now everything is slow paperwork and Teams meetings. About all I have managed to do so far is upload paperwork to the third-party insurance people and annoy an HR person, which I would have preferred not to do.
