The fed.gov promises absolutely, totally, cross-their-hearts realio trulio, the world will not end in 2012, on 21 December or any other date.

     Uh-oh.

I don't care what the government says. My mortgage company says I can't die until it's paid off, so the world won't end for a long, long time. (As long as I can keep refinancing.)

Assuming that it is not going to end, would you check your e-mail soon, please? Thanks.

How appropriate for the comments on "mortgage" - from the French for "death pledge" or "death contract". You (and your estate) promise to either pay it off or face foreclosure.
