The mysterious crash appears to have been from the living room, where we finally discovered a small box had fallen on a folded camera tripod. There may be an animal in the basement. There may not. Time will tell.

Oh, it's probably just a poltergeist.
After I thought a rabbit had gotten into the garage, I bought a live trap and tried to lure the bunny in with food. Nothing.
Several years later, when working on the back wall of the garage, I found what was left of a baby bunny. Too scared to come out of hiding, I suppose. After that, I always close the garage door when mowing.
