I've been reading about the smallest nuclear submarine in the U. S. Navy, the
NR-1, which was, in some ways, more like a spacecraft than a submarine. Fascinating stuff, or at least the parts the people involved can talk about are. The little sub (probably) did a lot of of interesting Cold War-ish things and plenty of it is still a deep, dark secret.

Amazing to think that she's only just being taken apart at the breaker's.

Is this the little sub with landing gear, window and arms ??
Very sci-fi.
Jaynola: that's not NR-1. She was broken up some time ago. The sail, rudder and propellers are on display at the Submarine Force Library and Museum in Groton, CT. See last photo here.
Bruce: yes, it is.
She was in the yards in 2014, if I remember correctly. Due to her 'issues' it was decided to scrap her rather than put her on display, considering that she was still classified the day she was decommissioned.
